The World Health Organization (WHO) has said that a variant of Covid-19, which is feared to increase the number of coronavirus cases in India, has been found in more than a dozen countries.
The UN Health Agency said that variant B.1.617 Covid-19, first found in India, was found on Tuesday in more than 1,200 sequences uploaded to the GISAID database with open access “from at least 17 countries”.
“Most of the sequences were downloaded from India, Britain, the United States and Singapore,” the WHO said in its weekly epidemic update on the pandemic, according to AFP.
