Monkeypox cases in Europe have tripled in the past two weeks, the Associated Press reports. This was stated by the Director of the WHO Regional Office for Europe, Hans Kluge.
According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), more than 5,000 cases of infection have been identified in 51 countries around the world. Europe accounts for about 90% of the total number of infected people (more than 4,500 people): the disease has been recorded in 31 European countries.
It is noted that 99% of the patients are men.
Kluge urged European countries to do more to fight the disease.
