There is no woman who, at some point in her life, would not envy men who often look younger in middle age. Is it really? Do women age faster than men?
There are many biological differences between men and women. They affect all of us at some point in our lives, as well as in various aspects. It is no coincidence that there are jokes that men and women are from different planets. The perception of life is different for men and women. Our points of view usually diverge. Much more often men suffer from life-threatening diseases. Their life expectancy is also shorter than that of women.
However, the rate of aging depends on many factors. Both men and women age depending on their genetic characteristics, lifestyle, diet, environment and race.
One theory, according to which women live on average about 4 years longer than men, is explained by the tendency of women to monitor their health and conduct regular preventive check-ups, in contrast to men. On the other hand, according to a study cited by the BBC, men are more likely to work harder and experience more stress, which shortens their lifespan.
Lifestyle, stress and the environment in which we live inevitably affect the aging process and longevity, but there are also biological factors that have a huge impact.
There are marked gender differences in aging. These features are felt throughout our lives, but are especially noticeable in middle age or over 50. However, the fact that women live longer does not mean that they look younger, on the contrary. In many cases, visible signs of aging progress equally in men and women until women reach menopause. Then it seems that aging is accelerating, but in men it remains constant, gradual.
This is due to hormonal differences between men and women. With the onset of menopause in women, the level of estrogen decreases. This negatively affects the collagen in the skin. Its amount in the body is significantly reduced, which is why the skin fades faster than in men. In this sense, men and women age up to about 50 years in about the same way. At this age, noticeable and visible aging in women occurs faster due to hormonal fluctuations.
Skin aging and aging is of course inevitable, but there are some things you can do to slow down and postpone this inevitable moment. Exercise, healthy eating, minimizing stress, limiting or eliminating bad habits such as smoking and drinking alcohol are all wellness and youth practices that can help you slow down visible aging.
