The Sakurajima volcano erupted in Japan. He threw a column of ash and smoke to a height of 5.5 km.
The volcano is located in Kagoshima Prefecture on the southwestern Japanese island of Kyushu. No casualties, injuries, or damage have been reported. In connection with the eruption, roads in the vicinity of the volcano were closed to traffic.
Since the beginning of this year, volcanologists have recorded about 130 eruptions of this volcano. In July alone, the ash column has twice risen to a height of 3 km. The strongest recent eruption of Sakurajima was observed in 2009.
