According to the NHK television channel, the Sakurajima volcano erupts on the Osumi Peninsula of Kyushu Island (Japan).
The volcano, whose activity increased as early as July 18, threw out a column of ash 2.5 km high, and red-hot lava comes out of its crater.
The Japan Meteorological Service has issued the highest warning level, red, in the vicinity of the volcano, in particular in the nearby city of Kagoshima.
The authorities announced a partial evacuation of the population from the surrounding areas.
