A magnitude 7.3 earthquake shook northeastern Japan near the city of Soma in Fukushima Prefecture at 11:41 pm local time, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.

The earthquake shook the buildings. According to NHK public television, the quake affected Miyagi and Fukushima prefectures.
