Italy imposes new restrictions on electric scooters

The Transport Committee of the Italian Chamber of Deputies is studying the possibility of introducing speed and age restrictions for the use of electric scooters, the Corriere della Sera newspaper reported today, BGNES reports.

According to the publication, the authorities may prohibit minors from using vehicles. Bicycle lanes will be allowed to travel at a speed of no more than 20 km / h, and off-road – up to 30 km / h. Protective helmet will be mandatory.

Electric scooters are becoming increasingly popular in Italy. Currently, they can be used by people over 14 years old, and people under 18 are required to wear a helmet. The maximum speed limit is 25 km / h, and in pedestrian areas – 6 km / h.

According to the rules, scooters must have lighting fixtures, in the evening and at night the driver must wear a reflective vest. With them it is impossible to transport other people and animals, and at crossing of a zebra street the driver has to cross the road on foot. Scooters are not allowed on the sidewalks.
