After a long period of isolation, cities around the world began to receive tourists. But crowd control is still a concern for tourist countries amid the COVID-19 surge. In an effort to control excessive tourism and the further spread of the coronavirus, Florence has introduced a new rule that prohibits people from taking evening walks in the most popular area of the Italian city on Thursday, Friday and Saturday until further notice.
Popular regions of Florence, namely Santo Spirito, Santa Croce, Piazza Strozzi and Piazza S.C. The Annunciation will be closed to tourists from 21:00 to 6:00 if they do not visit bars and restaurants in these regions. All these places are attracted mainly by evening gatherings of people who go out for a snack and a drink.
If someone is caught violating the rules, he will be fined between 500 and 1,100 euros. The rule will remain in effect until Italy declares an end to the pandemic.
