On Monday, a spokesman for Iran’s foreign ministry said the United States should lift sanctions and guarantee that the mistakes made by former US President Donald Trump’s administration would never happen again.
“The United States must lift sanctions on Iran, and we must guarantee that Trump’s mistakes will not happen again, then we will be able to speak at the JCPOA,” Saeed Hatibzadeh told a weekly news conference.
US President Joe Biden has offered to join European countries to revive Iran’s nuclear deal with six states in 2015, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). Trump abandoned him in 2018 and imposed sanctions. But Tehran says Washington must first lift sanctions and rejoin the pact.
