The head of the European Bureau of the World Health Organization (WHO), Hans Kluge, said that the heat wave, which led to the death of people in Europe, is “frightening and apocalyptic”.
Kluge emphasized that European countries should prepare a joint plan against the negative impact of abnormal heat, which in turn is one of the consequences of climate change. “The current crisis threatens the public health and existence of mankind,” Kluge said.
According to Kluge, the heat wave that has led to deaths in Europe is “unprecedented, frightening and apocalyptic.”
Governments must show political will, abandon empty rhetoric and implement the climate change agenda of the Paris Agreement.
Kluge also drew attention to the fact that anyone exposed to heat waves should spend at least 2-3 hours a day in a temperate environment.
Heatwaves in Portugal and Spain have killed at least 1,700 people, according to the World Meteorological Organization.
