According to BGNES, a lightning strike in the northern city of Jaipur killed at least 11 people and injured many.

The victims took a selfie in the rain on top of a 12th-century observation tower in Fort Amer. The tower is a popular tourist attraction.

When the incident occurred, about 27 people were on top of the tower and the fortress wall.

Since 2004, about 2,000 Indians have been killed by lightning.

A senior police officer told the media that the tower was a popular spot in the fortress, adding that most of the victims were very young.

Governor Ashok Gelot announced 500,000 rupees ($ 6,700) in compensation to the families of the dead.
