According to BGNES, a lightning strike in the northern city of Jaipur killed at least 11 people and injured many.
The victims took a selfie in the rain on top of a 12th-century observation tower in Fort Amer. The tower is a popular tourist attraction.
When the incident occurred, about 27 people were on top of the tower and the fortress wall.
Since 2004, about 2,000 Indians have been killed by lightning.
A senior police officer told the media that the tower was a popular spot in the fortress, adding that most of the victims were very young.
Governor Ashok Gelot announced 500,000 rupees ($ 6,700) in compensation to the families of the dead.
