The resort of Sharm el-Sheikh in Egypt is about to change

In Sharm el-Sheikh, preparations are in full swing for the international climate conference, which will be held in November 2022. Thanks to this event, the South Sinai resort on the Red Sea will undergo changes.

Less trash, more white in the frame of the building

Egypt is conducting large-scale preparations for the organization of the 27th UN climate conference, which will be held in Sharm el-Sheikh. The city receives multimillion-dollar investments in infrastructure reconstruction, landscaping and landscaping, the beneficiary of which is also the tourism sector.

Thus, Sharm el-Sheikh has been promised new energy capacities to convert most institutions, including hotels and tourist transport, to solar energy. The entire bus fleet of the South Sinai resort will run on electricity.

Sea transport will also be updated. There will be no more “smoking” diesel fuel boats on the Red Sea: only ships running on ecological fuel will be released into the sea.

The resort opened a landfill for the processing of solid waste. Sanitary control over street cleaning, garbage disposal and unauthorized dumps, including the resort area, has been strengthened.

The owners of “unfinished buildings” are ordered to either complete the construction or mothball the object in a short time so that it does not disfigure the urban environment.

Roads will be repaired and cycle paths will be built in the city. And, finally, the facades of all buildings facing the central streets of the city will be painted white.

Also by November, the resort should open a city park and a stylized Bedouin village.

Hotels move to environmental standards and improve the Internet

At the beginning of May, 22 Sharm el-Sheikh hotels have already received “green” certificates confirming the “transition to environmental standards”. This means that hotels are using solar panels and implementing better water treatment and recycling systems. Another 48 objects are in the process of certification.

Sharm el-Sheikh hotels also receive high-speed internet. According to the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism, more than 120 3*, 4* and 5* hotels have already improved internet speed.

According to the Egyptian Tourism Authority, several new hotels with 2,000 beds will open in Sharm el-Sheikh by next season, and another 10 hotels will expand their room stock.
