To “squeeze out” the maximum possible hotel loyalty, including the best room without additional payment. you need to be guided by the advice of experts. General Manager of The Cavendish London, Mark Hardy, shared his top hotel tips with travelers in a conversation with Express.
The first recommendation of the specialist is to use the services of the concierge as much as possible. “They are well connected and can often help you book restaurant tables, events, and tours,” he explained. For guests looking to save money, the concierge can recommend cheaper dining and travel options.
His second piece of advice was to book directly through the hotel rather than through a third-party site. This way you can get the best price. Booking a hotel in the city center can be even cheaper than in the middle of nowhere in areas where there is no “convenient and cheaper public transport”.
As for which room to book as a tourist’s choice, the expert suggested that there is one that beats all others. “Ask for a corner room – they often have the largest floor area and more windows.” If it is free, it will be provided free of charge.
Is there a best day to book a hotel stay? According to the expert, Sunday “is usually the quietest day of the week for most hotels and on this day the hotel can offer big discounts.”
Staying in the same hotel regularly and getting to know people can also pay off in the long run. “Sign up for loyalty programs if you’re a repeat guest and ask the hotel team to add your preferences to their profile, such as a high- or low-floor room. It’s not always guaranteed, but it can help! – advised the specialist.
In addition, the expert recommended always remembering if the tourist is staying at the hotel for a special occasion. “Perhaps the hotel will offer you something special to mark the holiday in some way,” he added. Whether it’s a birthday, graduation, or anniversary, the hotel staff won’t know unless they’re told.
But if the vacationer wants some kind of privileged relationship, not related to a special occasion, that can also be arranged. You just have to give up shyness. “If you need a room of increased comfort or special requirements, for example, a second shelf for luggage, just ask for it – it never hurts to write to the hotel before the trip and ask directly,” said Mark Hardy.
His next piece of advice was to ensure a restful night’s rest before an active day with an unusual accessory: “Use a trouser hanger with clips to pull the curtains tight in the hotel – that way you’ll get a good night’s sleep.” And finally, one more recommendation from an expert: “The ironing board can become an excellent temporary table for children or, if necessary, an adjustable workplace.”
