The cool weather, which settled for several days in the resorts of the main Turkish province, did not stop the loading of hotels in Antalya by tourists who felt the spirit of freedom after the decline in the number of oronavirus infected in Turkey. Last week was lively: the occupancy of hotels during the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha, which partly coincided with the May holidays, reached 80 percent. According to Turkish media, the pandemic was off the agenda and against this background the number of guests exceeded the expectations of Turkish experts.
During the 5-day vacation, many families who postponed their vacation due to the pandemic rushed to Antalya. From 30 to 50 percent of the total capacity of hotels was filled by domestic tourists, and 30 percent – foreign vacationers. Ferit Turgut, Chairman of the Board of Representatives of the Association of Travel Agencies of Turkey (TÜRSAB) in the Mediterranean region, said that the occupancy rate of hotels and hostels in Antalya was high: “All sectors are getting their share. It was a serious start to the season. This state of affairs has raised the morale of all. ”
Nirvana Hotels Group CEO Korhan Alshan also noted that hotels are active in the domestic market: “The total capacity of hotels is 30-50 percent of the domestic market. About 30% of the seats were filled by foreign markets. In the Antalya region there is a filling of 60 to 80 percent. The season is just beginning. At this time, market demand is usually low. I saw results that were higher than I expected. I attribute this to the fact that the code disappeared from the agenda. The coincidence of the holiday date with the end of the pandemic created a double holiday effect for tourists. People have accumulated longing. Even in 2019, armor in the domestic market fluctuated by 10-20 percent lower than now.
However, optimism does not share the elite resorts of Turkey. Details in the article “For the first time, the Turkish resort for millionaires was empty: the authorities have announced the biggest crisis in 30 years.”
