Deputy Minister of Tourism and Antiquities for Tourism Gada Shalabi stressed the importance of the approval of the Cabinet of Ministers of the decision adopted by the Ministerial Committee on Tourism and Antiquities on November 16, 2021, to increase the minimum price for accommodation in five-star hotels.
The new solution adds value to Egyptian destinations and represents a second step towards restructuring the way Egyptian products are sold in different countries, she said.
The first increase in minimum prices for accommodation was applied on November 1 in five-star and four-star hotels.
In a telephone interview during the Last Word program, she added that some hotels offer prices that could affect the quality of service, explaining that some hotels offer a five-star room for $ 25 per night.
Shalabi said the decision to raise minimum hotel prices to $ 50 per night for Egyptians and foreigners will be implemented from May 1, 2022, with the exception of some provinces, where the decision will be delayed until November 2022.
She noted that some hotels were allowed to operate at full capacity, not just 70 percent.
