Egypt has reaffirmed that the change, or rather the increase in the minimum cost of hotel rooms – which has been regulated in the country for a year – has been postponed until November. This is a bar below which the hotel can not lower the price – and, for example, in five-star hotels, it is $ 40 per day.
The price was expected to be raised from May 1. It was to be $ 50 for five-star hotels, $ 40 for four-star hotels, $ 30 for three-star hotels, $ 20 for two-star hotels and $ 10 for one-star hotels.
However, in light of the financial crisis and the “shortage” of tourists, primarily from the Ukrainian and Russian markets, the Egyptian government postponed the increase until November.
Opinions of tourism workers differed – local media emphasize. Some support the postponement of the decision in light of the consequences of the crisis for the world economy, while others believed that the application of a minimum increase will help maintain the quality of service provided to tourists. The increase has been postponed until the winter season, namely in November 2022.
