Currently, the Delta strain accounts for 50% of coronavirus cases in Greece. This was stated by the President of the Biomedical Research Foundation of the Athens Academy of Sciences Dimitris Thanos.
Two weeks ago, only four cases of the Indian variant of the virus were detected in the country, BGNES reports.
Thanos said Delta would dominate much earlier than expected, adding that the fourth wave of coronavirus in Greece had already become a fact.
He said that vaccination is the best protection against the virus, despite the fact that mutations reduce the effectiveness of vaccines by 10-15%.
