Greece returns protective masks for indoor use

With the arrival of the new holiday season, the movement and activity of young people aged 18-24 years increased, and these appear to be the main factors behind the increase in new cases of COVID-19 in Greece. This was reported by the Public Health Organization today, Kathimerini quotes.

The head of the organization Theoklis Zautis and expert in epidemiology and preventive medicine Dimitris Paraskevis presented data at an emergency briefing in Athens today, showing that the number of active cases across the country now stands at between 150,000 and 200,000.

Paraskevis noted that the greatest increase in cases of the disease is observed in the Ionian and southern islands of the Aegean Sea, as well as in Crete and Athens.

Experts expect the current wave to peak in the middle of the month.

The number of hospitalizations and intubated patients has also increased over the past three weeks, the National Health Organization said, adding that the public health system is not under much pressure yet.

However, they said an expert panel advising the government would recommend that masks be made compulsory again in all closed public places such as supermarkets and shops.
