More than 50 fires broke out in various parts of Greece on Saturday. This was announced at an extraordinary briefing in Athens by Deputy Minister of Civil Defense and Anti-Crisis Management Nikos Hardalas.
The situation is especially difficult due to strong winds blowing in the country, BNR reports.
One of the big fires closer to the evening occurred in the mountains on the island of Evia. One settlement was evacuated as a precaution. The cause of the fire is still unclear.
Helicopters, planes and a number of firefighters are involved in extinguishing the fire in Greece.
