Greece has imposed a curfew and banned music on two popular tourist islands to limit the spread of the coronavirus, a deputy civil defense minister told Reuters.
The restrictions will take effect on August 13 and will cover the island of Zakynthos, where the epidemic burden increased by 69 percent compared to the previous week, and the capital of Crete, Chania, where the incidence increased by 54 percent over the same period. Measures include the introduction of curfews at night and a total ban on music playing in restaurants.
“We urge residents and visitors to fully comply with the measures and limit the spread of the virus,” the ministry said in a statement.
Greece reported 2,856 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday and 16 deaths from the virus. Last month, the islands of the South Aegean Sea were included in the dark red zone by the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control, which restricts insignificant trips to the islands.
