Scholz: Neither NATO nor the President of the United States aim to change power in Russia

Despite the invasion of Ukraine, neither NATO nor the US president intend to change power in Russia, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz told Aer De, quoted by AFP.

“I had the opportunity to talk in detail with him (President Joe Biden) at the White House, and we discussed these issues as well,” Scholz added.

During a visit to Warsaw on Saturday, Biden said his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, “cannot stay in power.” Immediately afterwards, the White House assured that Biden’s statement was not a call for a “change of government.”

“Democracy, freedom and law have a future everywhere, I bet, our deep desire as people is to live in a democracy,” Scholz told television.

“However, nations and nations have to fight for this freedom,” he said. “What we must guarantee is the absence of violations of the integrity and sovereignty of states,” the chancellor added.

Asked about the supply of weapons from Germany, which Kyiv considers insufficient, Scholz said: “We are doing everything in our power.” According to him, the weapons already delivered from the West have led to “significant success”.
