Russian President Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with German Chancellor Angela Merkel. This is stated in the message of the Kremlin press service.
At the request of the Federal Chancellor, the Russian President informed about the main results of the Russian-American summit in Geneva on June 16, the press service noted.
The telephone conversation took place in connection with the 80th anniversary of the attack by Nazi Germany on the USSR and the Memorial Day celebrated in Russia.
“Angela Merkel expressed her feelings of empathy for the innumerable troubles and suffering that the war unleashed by the Nazi regime brought. Both sides stressed the importance of preserving the historical memory of the tragic events of those years. It was stated that overcoming mutual hostility and reconciliation of the Russian and German peoples were of key importance for the fate of post-war Europe. It was emphasized that even now, ensuring the security of our common continent is possible only through joint efforts,” the message says.
