Lufthansa, Europe’s largest airline, has announced that it is refusing to address “ladies and gentlemen” when greeting passengers on board the aircraft and replacing it with gender-neutral alternatives.
A spokesman for the German company told AFP that the decision was aimed at making all passengers feel welcome guests, including those who do not identify as men or women.
“Crews were instructed to choose a greeting that includes all passengers,” the spokesman said. Options include “dear guests” or just “good morning / good evening”.
The new policy will be gradually introduced in all airlines of the group.
