Three earthquakes have been recorded in Georgia in the last 24 hours

Three earthquakes occurred in eastern Georgia in the last 24 hours. This was reported on the website of the National Center for Seismic Monitoring.

On August 10, at 6:34 p.m., a magnitude 3.1 earthquake shook 24 km west of Dmanisi. On August 11, at 1:14 a.m., a magnitude 3.2 earthquake struck 25 km east of the town of Ninotsminda, near the village of Sameba. Three minutes later, it was followed by an aftershock (re-shock) of magnitude 3.1.

More than 1,200 earthquakes have occurred in Georgia over the past month. Most of them were recorded in the vicinity of the village of Sameba, on the territory of the Javakheti ridge. In a comment to Netgazeti, the head of the National Seismic Monitoring Center Teya Godoladze said that these processes do not surprise experts, as the Javakheti ridge is of volcanic origin. Experts are observing because seismic processes are important from the point of view of study and analysis, however, as Gogoladze notes, for the population, what is happening does not pose a particular threat.

Georgia is a country of medium seismic activity. The strongest earthquake recorded in Georgia, with a magnitude of 7.0, occurred in 1991 in the regions of Racha and Imereti (Western Georgia). The intensity at the epicenter was 9 points. This earthquake killed about 200 people, destroyed nearly 46,000 homes and thousands of industrial facilities.
