Less than two months after France abolished the obligation to wear masks outdoors, several coastal resorts have resumed fighting the fourth wave of coronavirus.
The Finistère district of Brittany, which includes the cities of Quimper, Morlaix and Brest, has obliged its citizens to wear masks outdoors after a jump in disease.
The number of infected people increased from 19 to 90 per 100,000 inhabitants from June 20 to July 30, Finisterre authorities said.
Last week, masks also became mandatory outdoors in the Morbihan area, which covers the cities of Van and Côtes-d’Armor, including Dinan and San Brio. Other areas that have resumed the mandatory wearing of masks include the Mediterranean island of Corsica, at the foot of the Pyrenees, on the border with Spain and Lake Annecy, at the foot of the Alps.
Health officials in Corsica said on Tuesday that hospitals would begin canceling scheduled surgeries as they battled an influx of patients with COVID. / AFP
