French President Emmanuel Macron today refused to use the word “genocide” used by US President Joe Biden in relation to Russia’s actions in Ukraine.
“Verbal escalation is unlikely to end the conflict in Ukraine,” he said in an interview with France 2 television.
Macron was asked how he would comment on Biden’s statements yesterday that Russia’s actions in Ukraine are genocide. The French president said he prefers to be “careful with the terms” he uses.
“I would say that Russia unilaterally started a brutal war, which has already been proven. That the Russian army committed war crimes and that those responsible for these crimes must be found,” he said.
“What is happening now is madness, unheard of cruelty… but at the same time, I look at the facts and want to make every effort to end this war and restore peace. In this sense, I am not convinced that the escalation of words is something that contributes to this cause, ”said the French President.
We remind you that yesterday Joe Biden for the first time accused Russia of committing genocide in Ukraine.
“Your family’s budget, being able to fill up your tank, none of that should depend on a dictator declaring war and committing genocide on the other side of the world,” Biden said during a visit to Iowa to fight inflation.
