The sale of cannabidiol (CBD) in cannabis, in any form, is now legal in France. The main condition: the product must be produced in the EU and in accordance with the regulations in force there.
This follows from the decision of the country’s Court of Cassation, which overturned a previous conviction against one owner of a shop selling cannabis buds.
Jean-Baptiste Berry, co-owner of the Chanvrier Francais store: “In France, there was an old decree, which said that you can sell the stem and leaf, but the flower is not. The European Court of Justice ruled that the flower cannot be banned because it is on the list of goods for free circulation in the Schengen area. Our conclusions were confirmed. . But before the decision of the French Court of Cassation, this issue was in a gray legal zone.”
Nicolas Beaz, local musician and customer: “This is very good, because finally, at this level, we have a broad outlook on things. They realized that this is not necessarily a drug, but a way to manage themselves differently than with the help of drugs produced by pharmaceutical giants. You can move away from this system and use hemp, cannabidiol as a heart that can help easily and simply.”
Thanks to the decision of the Court of Cassation, some 200 French cannabis growers, processors and distributors can now form an entire industrial sector in CBD. Today, approximately 90% of the hemp-based products sold are imported, in particular from Belgium, Switzerland and Luxembourg.
