Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba admitted that Ukraine will become a NATO member before joining the European Union. The head of the Ukrainian diplomacy said this in an interview with the “League”.
“I grew up in a system where communism was constantly being built. Another 10 years, another 20 years. And communism was never built. Therefore, I will not name any dates. But according to the logic of the historical process, I can confidently assume that Ukraine will become a NATO member earlier than an EU member,” Kuleba said.
The Foreign Minister noted that he does not consider the strategy “Ukraine without NATO.”
“I cannot have such a strategy. The constitution does not provide for a Ukraine without NATO. But, of course, as a homo sapiens, I understand that we need to strengthen security now, before we join NATO. I see it this way. We are moving towards NATO membership. We do not know exactly when it will come. Everything that we do from today until NATO membership, and that does not suspend this goal, is permissible,” he said.
The Ukrainian minister stressed that the authorities are working to develop military-technical cooperation, looking for and creating regional and global alliances that will help strengthen the country’s security.
“Now in the world there is not a single state that would be ready to provide Kiev with security guarantees. But there are many countries with which we can create diplomatic combinations to strengthen the security of Ukraine. First of all, this is the United States,” Kuleba said.
