During the investigation of the Egyptian prosecutor’s office in cooperation with the French judicial authorities managed to stop all attempts to sell smuggled Egyptian antiquities.
Egypt’s Attorney General Hamdi El Sava and a senior delegation from the country’s prosecutor’s office received 114 Egyptian artifacts smuggled into France in Paris on Wednesday.
Artifacts belong to different epochs of ancient Egyptian civilization.
During El Sava’s visit to Paris, he was accompanied by Mostafa Waziri, Secretary General of the High Council of Antiquities and Director of the General Directorate of Restored Antiquities.
The restored antiques were handed over by the French Ministry of the Interior to the Egyptian embassy in France for examination under the supervision of the Egyptian prosecutor’s office before being returned to Cairo.
At a ceremony hosted by the embassy, Egyptian Ambassador to France Alaa Youssef praised the joint cooperation and called it an achievement that adds to the history of bilateral relations between Egypt and France.
Al-Sawa, meanwhile, expressed gratitude for the co-operation between the Egyptian and French judicial authorities, adding that co-operation in combating anti-theft should be continued.
He stated the need to develop a strategic plan for the exchange of experience between the two countries in the field of criminal investigation.
Al-Sawa reaffirmed the need for effective cooperation between all parties in different countries in the fight against organized and transnational crime. These include terrorism, money laundering, anti-smuggling, human trafficking and violence against women.
