WHO warns of third wave of coronavirus in Europe

The 10-week decline in new coronavirus infections in Europe is coming to an end, and a new wave of infections is inevitable if citizens and legislators do not remain disciplined, said the head of the WHO Regional Office for Europe, Hans Kluge, at a news briefing today.

According to Kluge, last week the number of new cases increased by 10%, due to an increase in the number of cases of confusion, travel, fees and the easing of social restrictions.

“It’s happening in the context of a changing situation. A new concern has emerged – the Delta option – and in a region where, despite the enormous efforts of member states, millions of people remain unvaccinated, ”he said.

“If we do not adhere to discipline, there will be a new wave in the WHO European region,” he added.
