IATA’s global body said Wednesday that a digital COVID-19 test ticket and vaccine certificates will be launched on Apple’s platform in mid-April.
The digital ticket, which is currently being tested, was scheduled to begin by the end of March.
IATA’s regional vice president for Africa and the Middle East, Kamil Alavadhi, said the app is expected to hit Apple on April 15 and later on Android.
“But the program will succeed only after airlines, various countries and airports accept it,” Alavadhi said.
The British carrier Virgin Atlantic announced on Friday that from April 16 it will test the IATA application on the route London – Barbados. Barbados has said it will accept a pass at its border, one of the first countries to accept a digital pass instead of paper.
IATA said the ticket would help speed up registration.
