EMA: Pfizer / BioNTech and Moderna can cause complications in young men

The European Medicines Agency warns of the rare side effects of Pfizer / BioNTech and Moderna – possible heart complications, especially in young men.

So far, two types have been observed: some of those who received the vaccine developed myocarditis, ie inflammation of the heart muscle, and in the other part – pericarditis – an inflammatory lesion of the serous membrane of the heart.

These symptoms usually appear within 14 days after the second dose of the vaccine.

The European Medicines Agency reports that these effects are extremely rare and usually the patient recovers fairly quickly after standard treatment and rest.

Of the 177 million people who received the Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine, 145 developed myocarditis and 138 developed pericarditis.

Of the 20 million people vaccinated with Moderna, 19 cases of both side effects were reported.
