Beijing and Wuhan airports have canceled 498 flights due to thunderstorms in eastern and central China.
Although the weather did not affect the capital, a total of 176 flights were canceled and another 126 were detained on Saturday at Beijing’s Dasin International Airport because it affected either their route or destination.
Beijing Capital International Airport said it had canceled 172 flights by 8 p.m.
The services reminded passengers to monitor weather changes and flight updates.
Stormy weather, including thunderstorms, hail, tornadoes and storms, was observed in many parts of the country on Friday and Saturday.
On Friday, a whirlwind broke through the area in Wuhan, killing eight people and injuring 280. Rescue operations are still ongoing.
Wuhan Tianhe International Airport said 150 flights had been canceled and 58 others were delayed as of 9:04 p.m. on Saturday.
Also Friday, the city of Shenzhe in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province in eastern China, was hit by another powerful tornado, which killed four people and injured more than 100. Power facilities were damaged and several buildings were destroyed.
