Again COVID-19 in Wuhan, testing of the entire population begins

Mass testing begins in the Chinese city of Wuhan, where the coronavirus appeared in late 2019.

The entire population will be screened for COVID-19 after several new cases are identified. This was announced on Tuesday by local authorities, quoted by AFP.

Three new cases of coronavirus were confirmed in the city on Monday, which reported an outbreak of Delta-infected, which appeared last month in the eastern regions of the country. The last previously registered cases of COVID-19 in the city occurred in May 2020.

According to this year’s census, Wuhan has more than 12.3 million inhabitants, reminds TASS.

The city along the Yangtze River will urgently subject all its residents to extended PCR tests, local government spokesman Li Tao told reporters.

China virtually stopped the epidemic in the spring of 2020, but the virus is spreading again within a few weeks.

In total, at least 300 cases were confirmed across the country in July, but far fewer than were reported by other countries.

Geographically, however, the outbreak is significant: more than a dozen provinces have been affected, including the capital, Beijing, which has urged locals not to leave the city on Sundays, except as a matter of urgency.
