The Austrian authorities have announced that the incidence of COVID-19 has started to rise again due to the fact that the country’s citizens have returned from a summer vacation spent in Croatia.
A couple of weeks ago, only 187 Austrians returned positive from Croatia after returning from Croatia, while last week the number of people infected with COVID-19 who entered Austria from Croatia was more than four times higher than 14 days ago, according to Austrian Heute.
In addition, 501 new cases of COVID-19 infection were registered in the last week alone. This indicates that in just 29 and 30 weeks, 834 cases of coronavirus infection were detected among travelers returning from Croatia.
Spain used to be the main tourist destination, from which most cases of coronavirus infection were imported to Austria.
The Austrian authorities are still concerned about all persons returning from Spain, even though the number of new cases reported since their return has dropped from 322 cases registered 14 days ago to 262 cases.
With the exception of travelers returning from Croatia and Spain, new cases of COVID-19 infection have also been reported among those returning from other countries. An increase from four to 33 coronavirus-infected travelers was reported among those returning from Bosnia and Herzegovina, followed by Germany with 63 cases and France with 54 cases.
