Australian customs fined a tourist who returned from Singapore for a half-eaten chicken and salad sandwich, which the girl forgot to declare upon arrival at home.
The 19-year-old model from Perth Jessica Lee (Jessica Lee) admitted on video that she arrived at the airport in Singapore very hungry. Before returning to her homeland, the girl managed to go to the Subway fast food chain restaurant and buy herself a sandwich. However, due to the unwillingness to finish eating the sandwich, it had to be put into the bag. As a result, the tourist forgot about the remaining half of the snack for several hours.
Upon arrival in Australia, Lee was detained by customs officers. It turned out that by forgetting to report a half-eaten sandwich in her bag, the traveler violated strict biosecurity rules: anyone entering the country must declare goods purchased abroad, including “meat, poultry, fish, seafood, eggs, dairy products, fruits, and vegetables.” The fine for illegal importation of a piece of chicken and salad, which were in half of the sandwich, cost the tourist 2,664 Australian dollars (about 68,000 hryvnias).
It was noted that Lee’s story attracted the attention of not only netizens but also the Subway restaurant itself. In the next video, the girl showed that the company sent her a package with a gift card worth 2664 Australian dollars. Thus, the fast food chain thanked the tourist for choosing their products and expressed the hope that the promotion would cover her “needs for chicken and salad.”
