Albanian prosecutors have launched an investigation into the poisoning of about 400 residents of the small town of Kruja, near Tirana, according to the online version of the Albanian Daily News.
According to the newspaper, almost all poisoned citizens were sent to hospitals in the country because their condition does not allow treatment at home.
Samples of drinking water in the village are currently being tested. Local police suspect that the poisoning could have been caused by sewage entering drinking water tanks.
“The situation with patients in hospitals is under control. This is not the first time we have encountered such difficult situations,” said the director of one of the clinics, noting that patients are provided with appropriate medication and all are under the supervision of specialists.
